Passively Q-switched crystal Cr:GSGG Crystal
Gadolinium scandium gallium garnet (GSGG) Co doped with chromium is an efficient laser material. For the first time, the electro-optical shutter element is used to provide Q-switching operation of ruby laser. A passively Q-switched ruby laser is realized by using saturable dye absorber and colored glass (compound of selenium and cadmium sulfide). In recent years, the working characteristics of dye Q-switch in pulsed ruby laser have been studied. However, due to the degradation (decomposition) of dyes, the durability of dye Q-switch is limited, and the glass Q-switch is easy to be damaged. Therefore, tetravalent chromium doped gadolinium scandium gallium garnet gd3sc2ga3o12 (Cr4 +: GSGG) passively Q-switched ruby laser provides high reliability, durability and high efficiency for the first time.

Cr: GSGG crystal – a crystal with high efficiency and high reliability. A saturable absorption Q-switch is provided for ruby laser by Cr4 +: GSGG for the first time. Conventional single output pulse operation (100mJ and 27ns duration) has an efficiency of 25-30% compared with free running ruby laser operation. Crystal material GSGG: Cr3 + is a broadband and room temperature laser material of interest. The small separation between 4T2 and 2E electron levels of Cr3 + in the system can lead to interesting spectral behavior. The temperature dependence of continuous wave and transient luminescence has been studied. It is found that it is consistent with the Cr3 + theme model with the lowest energy 2e and 4T2 at low temperature.
